This match provided a chance for some of Palace's fringe players to impress. Christantus Uche, making only his second beginning after joining on loan from Getafe, notched the scoring with a well-taken goal. Striker Eddie Nketiah contributed a another, scoring for the second consecutive match.

After the break, manager Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to withdraw key players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring his very first touch, only to see his effort blocked.
The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one shot crash off each posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then missed a glaring chance, showing there is still room for development in his game.
A solitary worry for Palace was a second-half knock to Justin Devenny, who limped off. This allowed 17-year-old forward Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise positive night for the traveling side.
